Let me start off with a little background on myself. I’m a writer of erotic romance. I said a little background. Keep your pants on or take them off as you see fit. Just keep reading and I’ll delve into my background farther down.
Just the other day I ran into an old friend I’d not seen in years. We went to middle school together. How she remembered me, I don’t have a clue. Looking back, I considered myself a creative know-it-all with unrealistic dreams of the future and a witty sense of humor. Oh, maybe I’m thinking of present day. Anyway, this old friend wanted to know everything about my life from the beginning of time until present day. She fired off questions like Alex Trebek on speed, and by the time the onslaught was over, I had melted into a bubbling heap, similar to the Wicked Witch of the West. “Oh, what a world! What a world!” Somewhere between, “What do you do for a living?” and her reply to my admission of writing mostly erotic romance, “You write that crap!” did the hair on the back of my neck bristle. Why should it matter that the content of my work encompasses the journey of falling in love with a little or a lot of added sex? Like there’s not an audience out there scratching tooth and nail to purchase the stuff. Wee! (Me rolling around the floor laughing)
Self-published fiction romance/erotica makes up the highest sales of all genre’s in the self-publishing industry. Don’t believe me, check it out for yourself. Click here
As long as it is labeled correctly: EROTICA, FOR ADULTS ONLY 18 + YEARS AND OLDER. No erotic author wants the kiddies to get their hands on one of our books. So, yes, I write erotica, and I’m not ashamed of it. Let me repeat, I will never feel guilty for writing something that is as natural as the air I breathe. However, in that same glorified breath, I will never judge people for their opinions. Nor will I give them the power to change mine.
I didn’t come from a sexually open family. In fact, it was never talked about. No, I didn’t get the sex talk, or the birds and bees wisdom. Whatever you call it. I learned from feeling. That’s right, I’m a romantic who feels sex is a natural part of life. But it’s not just the act of sex itself, it’s that first penetrating look from someone I’m attracted to that makes my heart pound in my chest. It’s the soft brush of skin that tingles me to my core. It’s the smell and even the awkwardness that appeals to me. The way the other person makes me laugh. It’s that first tiny stir in my belly, that first flutter. It’s that first moment our lips meet. It’s the want and passion. The crush, the chase. Many of you might say that is very old fashioned. Well, if you feel that way then call me old fashioned. Some go straight to the sex and by-pass all the things that make MY heart skip a beat. If that does it for you, I say go for it.
I’ve always been a down home kind of girl who couldn’t care less for ambition, money, and material things. Love has always been the chauffer of my heart. It drives me like nothing else could. Love is what guides my life. Again, I did say a little background. There you have it.
So, to my old friend. Yes, I write erotic romance because I love it. To my fans and readers, kudos to you for getting it. And to those of you who have written some fantastic reviews, a BIG THANK YOU, for not being afraid to say you are a romantic too. You’re the best!! Finally, to my poker buddy’s who have asked if I write from experience–you will never know. wink wink!
